Hennig opens manufacturing facility in Portugal

Hennig signed a €51 million investment contract with AICEP to set up a manufacturing facility in Figueira da Foz. Creating 452 new jobs, the plant will produce large-scale power protection systems for critical infrastructure, including data centres, hospitals, and public buildings, reinforcing Portugal’s role as a competitive hub for advanced manufacturing.

Singapore-based TDCX has inaugurated its first operations in Portugal with the opening of a campus in Lisbon, strengthening its European footprint alongside existing centres in Spain and Romania. The new site will serve as a multilingual hub for customer experience, sales, and support services across EMEA. TDCX highlighted Portugal's skilled international workforce, strong digital infrastructure, and strategic location as key factors behind its investment decision.
Swisscom selects Lisbon for its new site

Switzerland’s leading telecommunications provider, has announced the establishment of a Delivery Center in Lisbon, Portugal, with operations expected to start in 2027. The new location will provide selected technology and business services across areas including IT, software development and finance. Swisscom plans to launch the center with 40 employees, scaling to around 200 in the medium term. According to the company, Lisbon was selected for its strong pool of highly skilled talent, growing digital ecosystem and access to future software and AI capabilities.

Dutch-based Heerema Marine contractors is opening an engineering centre in Porto. According to Heerema, Porto was a natural fit due to its strong engineering community, international outlook and a growing reputation as a technology and innovation centre.
Devaltec opens Technology Center at Biocant Park

Texas-based Devaltec opens a Technology Centre at Biocant Park in Cantanhede, Portugal, establishing a dedicated R&D and technology validation hub for the development, testing and scale-up of advanced circular economy and sustainable fuel processes.

Portugal Reinvents Cork: From Bottle Stoppers to Space Technology

Portugal, responsible for around half of the world's cork production, is demonstrating how a traditional natural resource can power innovation and advanced manufacturing. Led by Corticeira Amorim, the global cork industry leader, the country is expanding the use of cork far beyond its traditional role in wine stoppers, developing high-value applications for sectors such as construction, mobility, energy efficiency and aerospace.
Today, cork is used in more than 30 industries, including some of the world's most technologically demanding sectors. Portugal's cork industry is a compelling example of how the country combines natural resources, sustainability, industrial know-how, and innovation to create internationally competitive, high-value products for global markets.

In September 2026, Fitch upgraded Portugal’s sovereign credit rating from A to A+ with a stable outlook. The upgrade reflects years of declining public debt, stronger-than-expected growth and improved public finances. Public debt is expected to fall from 89.7% of GDP in 2025 to 87% in 2026 and 82.9% in 2028.
