Portugal presents Momentum, an immersive exhibition of contemporary design shaped by heritage, craftsmanship and sustainability, promoted by AICEP – Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency under the MADE IN PORTUGAL naturally brand.
Curated by Lisbon-based designer Miguel Soeiro, the exhibition explores the dynamic relationship between tradition and innovation. Rather than opposing forces, they are understood as part of a continuous evolution – where inherited knowledge informs new ways of designing, producing and living.
Conceived as the interior of a house by the sea, Momentum unfolds as a lived-in, sensory environment. Furniture, textiles, ceramics, cork, wood and metal come together to evoke Portugal’s material culture and its deep connection to the Atlantic. Through this domestic landscape, the exhibition reflects how design can translate cultural memory into contemporary expression, creating objects that are both meaningful and forward-looking.
Bringing together 24 Portuguese designers and brands, Momentum highlights a design ecosystem where craftsmanship, industrial expertise and innovation coexist. Portugal’s Home and Fashion clusters stand out for their flexibility and production capabilities, combining artisanal techniques with advanced manufacturing to meet global demand for distinctive, high-quality products.
With a strong focus on natural and renewable materials – particularly cork – Momentum also engages with broader questions around sustainability and circular design. It reflects a growing commitment to responsible production and material awareness, aligning with international markets that value durability, authenticity and environmental responsibility.
Alongside the exhibition, Momentum offers a parallel programme of talks, workshops, and interactive sessions. These activities invite visitors to engage directly with Portuguese design, materials, and creative processes. Throughout 3daysofdesign, participating companies Adico, Pardo, MAHIKA, Casatina, Olivah Studio, Darono, Formas de Pedra, and Tableau deliver talks, workshops, and demonstrations. These create opportunities for dialogue and exchange with designers, architects, buyers and the wider public. Together, they reinforce the exhibition’s central theme: design as a living practice, shaped through collaboration, and hands-on experiences experimentation and shared knowledge.
The programme is further enriched by the support of the Oceano Azul Foundation, whose contribution is featured as part of the official 3daysofdesign Festival Highlights through the screening of From the Ocean's Point of View. The film reinforces Momentum’s dialogue with the Atlantic and its commitment to sustainability, inviting visitors to reflect on the ocean from a unique perspective.
For architects, designers and buyers, the exhibition offers direct access to a network of Portuguese companies capable of delivering both bespoke and large-scale solutions. More than an exhibition, Momentum is a reflection on continuity – what we preserve, reinterpret and carry forward – positioning Portugal as a creative and reliable partner within the European design landscape, particularly in markets such as Denmark.
Keep the momentum. Design for the future.
