TEKEVER, a leading European provider of AI-driven autonomous systems, has acquired Edinburgh-based engineering company Flowcopter, strengthening its UK presence and expanding its capabilities in advanced aerospace propulsion.
Flowcopter has developed an innovative hydraulic transmission technology for aerospace propulsion that enables unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to carry heavier payloads over greater distances than conventional platforms.
The acquisition will accelerate the development of long-endurance, heavy-lift aerial platforms for applications including forward logistics, casualty evacuation, offshore operations, search and rescue, and disaster relief. It will also support advanced concepts such as crewed-uncrewed teaming.
The deal adds Edinburgh to TEKEVER’s growing UK network of engineering, manufacturing, testing and operational facilities. The company now employs more than 300 people across the UK, with operations in London, Bristol, Southampton, West Wales, Lydd and Swindon.
TEKEVER and Flowcopter already collaborate on the development of TEKEVER’s AR6 family of systems. The first AR6 platform, unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, incorporates Flowcopter’s hydraulic transmission technology and can carry at least 200kg over 500km.
The acquisition combines TEKEVER’s autonomous intelligence, mission systems and operational expertise with Flowcopter’s propulsion technology. It forms part of OVERMATCH, TEKEVER’s long-term £400 million investment programme to expand sovereign autonomy capabilities in the UK.
TEKEVER CEO Ricardo Mendes said the acquisition brings together two complementary organisations with a shared ambition to push the boundaries of autonomous systems.
Flowcopter Managing Director Peter McCurry said joining TEKEVER would allow the company to accelerate development and bring new capabilities to customers more quickly.
Flowcopter’s engineering operations in Edinburgh will be maintained under the TEKEVER brand, supporting the continued development of advanced propulsion and heavy-lift systems for next-generation aircraft.
