Seven landmarks, from castles and cathedrals to historic sites and gardens, have been named Portugal’s new wonders for 2026.
Portugal has seven new national wonders after the winners of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal 2026 were announced in Sintra on 12 September.
The winning landmarks span different periods and aspects of Portugal’s built heritage: Leiria Castle, Usseira Aqueduct in Óbidos, São Cucufate Ruins in Vila de Frades, Lisbon Cathedral, Olhão Markets, Tiago Cabaço Winery in Estremoz and the Bishop’s Palace Garden in Castelo Branco.
The initiative, organised by 7 Maravilhas de Portugal, aims to highlight Portugal’s built heritage and promote the country’s historical, architectural and cultural assets.
The seven winners were selected across seven categories: Castles, Major Works, History, Religion, 20th Century, 21st Century and Tourism.
