The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has published its 2026 Annual Report, “Navigating a Precarious World”, examining the forces reshaping the global economy and the challenges facing policymakers.
The report highlights the resilience of the world economy entering 2026, while pointing to continued risks from new conflicts, supply-chain disruptions and rapid technological change. It examines developments ranging from growing fiscal pressures and strains on international trade to the deployment of artificial intelligence and new developments in digital finance.
The IMF's latest analysis also points to significant challenges from high public debt, global economic imbalances and uncertainty surrounding the impact of AI on productivity and financial stability. In September, the Fund noted that global growth for 2026 remained around 3%, while warning that risks to the outlook remained high.
The Annual Report also outlines how the IMF supports its 191 member countries, both through its own work and in cooperation with other international organisations.
For businesses and investors, the report provides a broad overview of the economic environment shaping international markets, including developments in trade, technology, energy and financial conditions.
