Hovione is an international reference in the pharmaceutical industry. Founded in Portugal in 1959, with an international outlook that was established from its early years, the company has set itself apart through the science and technology it develops, as well as through its determination to find solutions to complex challenges.
In a sector as demanding as pharmaceuticals, Hovione has continuously invested in science, technology and innovation, enabling the company to expand its capabilities, which now encompass the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, particle engineering and drug product manufacturing. The expansion of its Loures facility and the establishment of manufacturing sites in Macau, the United States and Ireland have brought the company closer to its customers and created an industrial network with global responsiveness.
This network continues to be strengthened, as António Almeida, Hovione’s co-CEO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), points out. “We have expanded our particle engineering capacity in Cork and New Jersey, where we recently inaugurated a new building that marks a new phase of growth in the US. We are also developing the new Seixal campus, an initial investment of around 200 million euros that marks a new stage in the expansion of our industrial capacity in Portugal”. The campus is expected to become operational next year. It represents an important step in the company’s efforts to leverage the combination of advanced technology and highly skilled employment in Portugal to serve global markets.
