Danish medical device company Coloplast has inaugurated a €100 million manufacturing facility in Felgueiras, northern Portugal, expanding its production capacity for continence care products. The 50,000 m² site, spread across two floors, is the company’s largest manufacturing facility to date.
Production is already underway. The factory had more than 300 employees at the time of the inauguration, with the workforce expected to grow to over 800 people over time. The project was planned from 2021, with construction starting in summer 2024.
Coloplast says Portugal’s skilled workforce, competitive operating costs and location within Europe were key factors in its choice of Felgueiras. The site also diversifies the company’s European manufacturing footprint, which had been concentrated in Hungary.
