Portuguese construction group DST has been selected to build Lufthansa Technik’s new factory in Santa Maria da Feira, northern Portugal, in a €309 million investment that is expected to create 700 jobs by 2030. The project matters for international readers because it adds a major industrial investment in Portugal linked to the European aerospace supply chain.
The new facility will be built at Lusopark on a site of about 230,000 square metres and will include an industrial unit of roughly 55,000 square metres, according to information released by DST. The plant will be dedicated to repairing aircraft engine components and parts, using advanced technology for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations.
DST chairman José Teixeira said the contract was important both for its scale and for what it shows about the group’s technical capabilities. The Braga-based company said the award puts it in charge of one of the most significant international investments currently under way in Portugal, a project classified as being of national interest.
The contract went to DST after Teixeira Duarte and Ferreira Construção said last September that they had submitted a joint bid for the Lufthansa Technik factory. DST currently employs about 3,800 people, generates more than €700 million in revenue and also operates in Angola, Spain, France, the Netherlands and the UK.
