The University of Lisbon will invest more than €20 million in two new advanced data centres to support artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and scientific research, reinforcing Portugal's digital and innovation infrastructure.

The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is investing more than €20 million in one of Portugal's largest digital research infrastructures by creating two advanced data centres dedicated to artificial intelligence, scientific computing, and secure data management.
The new facilities will be located at the Instituto Superior Técnico's Taguspark campus in Oeiras and at the Faculty of Sciences in Lisbon. They will provide high-performance computing (HPC), cloud services and secure digital infrastructure to support research across multiple scientific disciplines.
The investment forms part of the ULISBOA CORE and ULISBOA CORE+ projects, co-financed under the Lisboa 2030 programme, with completion expected by 2028.
Beyond supporting research and education, the infrastructure will also be made available to Portuguese companies, start-ups and technology partners, helping accelerate innovation, knowledge transfer and the development of AI-driven solutions.
The initiative further strengthens Portugal's position as an emerging European hub for artificial intelligence, advanced computing and digital innovation.
