AICEP has signed a €51 million Investment Contract with U.S.-based Hennig for the establishment of a new industrial facility in Figueira da Foz, reinforcing Portugal’s position as a competitive destination for high-value industrial investment.
The investment contract was signed by Philomène Dias, Executive Board Member of AICEP, and Dietmar Goellner, CEO of Goellner Inc., in the presence of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and the Minister of Economy and of Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the future facility.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro highlighted AICEP’s contribution to Portugal’s investment performance, stating that the Agency’s work has been instrumental in promoting Portugal’s advantages to international investors. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to further strengthen AICEP’s role in attracting investment, noting that 2025 marked a record year for foreign direct investment contracted by AICEP.
Pedro Santana Lopes, Mayor of Figueira da Foz, also praised AICEP’s commitment, dedication and continuous efforts to promote Portugal’s different regions and attract foreign investment, highlighting the Agency’s contribution to bringing this strategic project to Figueira da Foz.
As Philomène Dias, AICEP Executive Board Member responsible for Investment, highlighted: “HENNIG’s decision to invest in Portugal demonstrates the country’s ability to attract high value-added industrial investment with a strong impact on innovation, exports and integration into international value chains. This project will generate a significant multiplier effect for both the Portuguese economy and the Figueira da Foz region.”
The project will create 452 new jobs and will be the company’s first European manufacturing facility dedicated to large-scale Power Protection solutions for critical infrastructure, including data centres, hospitals and public buildings.
The new plant will strengthen Portugal’s industrial base, boost exports and support the country’s growing role as a strategic hub for Europe’s digital and energy infrastructure. It will also include a dedicated training centre, developed in partnership with vocational training institutions, to equip highly skilled technical talent.
With implementation running through 2027, this investment further demonstrates international companies' confidence in Portugal as a strategic location for advanced manufacturing and sustainable industrial growth.
