Ginger & Jagger, a Portuguese product design brand, has won the Good Design Award 2025 with its Medronho wall light. The distinction was awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, in an edition that received 5,225 submissions, of which 1,619 were recognised.
The Medronho wall light stands out for its cast brass composition, inspired by the branching of the strawberry tree, a feature of Mediterranean landscapes. The organic form has been adapted into a functional piece, with the texture of the branches reproduced through casting techniques that preserve natural irregularities. Each element is shaped with technical precision, while the hand-blown glass globes display subtle variations that distinguish every piece.
The production process integrates specialised craftsmanship, reflecting an approach focused on materiality and careful execution. Launched in Europe in 2012, Ginger & Jagger develops contemporary pieces made by hand, drawing inspiration from nature. The brand designs and produces in Porto, where the Earth to Earth collection brings together sculptural forms and natural textures, crafted using artisanal techniques and combining materials such as brass, copper, exotic woods and marble.
