Casa Ermelinda Freitas is a fifth-generation Portuguese winery that has been managed over the years by the women of the Freitas family. It is one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing producers in Portugal, with operations in the regions of Setúbal Peninsula, Douro, and Green Wine, and an export strategy that has reached 50 international markets.
Most of its 550 hectares of vineyard are located in Fernando Pó, a privileged area of Palmela in the Setúbal Peninsula wine region. Casa Ermelinda Freitas was founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas. Deonilde, Germana, Ermelinda, Leonor, and Joana represent five generations of the Freitas family who have led Casa Ermelinda Freitas. For the past three decades, Casa Ermelinda Freitas has been managed by Leonor Freitas. The current manager's knowledge has roots in the last century, when her great-grandmother, Deonilde Freitas, decided to embark on a project that has never been lost, with the aim of being a reference and bringing prestige to the rural world.
Exporting has catalysed the company's growth with constant investment and commitment. The international growth strategy involves participating in global events and bringing wines to all corners of the world. Anchored in quality, appropriate image and price, this strategy focuses on developing brands and diversifying the portfolio. The inclusion of Vinho Verde and Douro wines has been an important strategy.
