Casa Santos Lima has always been an export-oriented company dedicated to producing, bottling and selling Portuguese wine. The company is in more than 60 countries on five continents and sells around 30 million bottles a year.
In the late 19th century, Joaquim Santos Lima was already a prominent producer and exporter of Portuguese wines, mainly to Brazil. Today, his family business, Casa Santos Lima, is in its fifth generation, and its wines reach markets worldwide.
In the 1990s, José Luís Santos Lima Oliveira da Silva, the founder's greatgrandson and current owner and co-CEO, left a successful 20-year career in finance to continue the family business and pursue his passion for wine. Upon joining the company, he oversaw replanting a significant portion of the vineyards, improved the selection of grape varieties, and invested in modernising the production process and cellars with new techniques and equipment. In 1996, Casa Santos Lima began bottling its wines, a strategic decision that required the purchase of technologically advanced bottling lines.
