FuriosaAI establishes operation in Portugal

South Korean AI chip start-up FuriosaAI has established its European flagship office in Lisbon, positioning Portugal as the hub for its operations across Europe. The office will coordinate commercial and technical support and will develop R&D in compilers and chip and PCB design. Portugal was selected for its strong chip design ecosystem, skilled talent pool, presence of internationally recognized universities and research institutions, and data centre infrastructure powered by clean energy.
TAG Medical opens manufacturing plant in Portugal

Financial Times: Portugal welcomes start-ups seeking scale

Portugal continues to grow its position as a leading European tech hub. The Unicorn Factory in Lisbon has attracted 17 international unicorns since its launch in 2022, drawn by the city’s quality of life and safety. The initiative has expanded significantly, attracting 300 new start-ups in 2025, up from 250 the previous year. Meanwhile, Porto is emerging as a dynamic innovation centre. With around 1,200 start-ups valued at nearly €9bn, the region benefits from strong university engagement and supportive incubators.
Portugal launched six new satellites to enable real-time maritime navigation services. Four of them form the Lusíada Constellation, while the remaining two integrate the broader Atlantic Constellation, supporting both civilian and military uses. Developed largely by Portuguese entities and launched via a SpaceX rocket, this system will provide ships with live data such as weather alerts, piracy risks, and emergency signals.
Volvo buses are now assembled in Portugal
UNVI’s facility in Porto will start production of the Volvo B13R UNVI XL luxury coach, increasing capacity and meeting strong demand in the UK and Irish markets. The chassis is built by Volvo Buses in Sweden and then assembled in Portugal.
Portugal has a world-renowned community in compilers, a consolidated ecosystem in chip design, data centres powered by clean energy, and a growing group of AI startups and solution integrators.
