According to Economico.pro, Oliófora has launched a new range of thalassotherapeutic products that cultivate health and beauty using seawater and other marine materials. The Portuguese natural cosmetics and skincare company has partnered with two sustainable algae growers to supply the new line.
The Hotel Farol Cascais, where visitors can enjoy some of Portugal’s best ocean views on the cliffs of Cascais near Lisbon, inspired cosmetics company Oliófora’s new Thalasso line. Launched in July 2024 and targeting guests at waterfront hotels, the Thalasso line uses seawater and other marine elements like algae to craft shower gel, body cream, shampoo, and hair mask products.
“Algae and other sea products are present in hotels' cuisine and now also in the rooms,” the company said in a statement. “Formulation development took significant time to achieve the right texture and fresh scent that would remind one of the sea and beach.”
Thalasso products include algae that hydrate, revitalize, and tone skin, improving elasticity and reducing signs of aging. Gracilaria, for instance, is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Fucus Vesiculosus restores the skin’s natural radiance and combats UV ray damage. Lithothamnium contains vitamins and amino acids that nourish and strengthen hair follicles.
Oliófora has partnered with two Portuguese sustainable algae growers to supply their new line. Ilhavo-based Algaplus grows seven native Portuguese species of algae with an integrated multitrophic approach to aquaculture, or siting multiple species together. Pataias-based Allmicroalgae produces microalgae and is a leader in microalgae biomass, food safety, and innovation.
The company is also hoping to drive sustainability with its packaging, too. It offers refillable dispensers, glass dispensers, and bespoke containers for use only in exclusive venues. These unique containers can reduce the cost of personal hygiene products by as much as 20 percent while using 70 percent less plastic.
