The March 2026 edition of Portugalglobal Magazine focuses on the Portuguese construction sector.
Amid an accelerating energy transition and the reconfiguration of global value chains, the construction sector has emerged as a key driver of the Portuguese economy. With a presence in 181 countries and over 4.6 billion euros in exports of construction materials, the sector is increasingly focused on innovation, sustainability, and digitalisation, demonstrating sustained growth in recent years.
In an exclusive interview, Rita Moura, a civil engineer and President of the Portuguese Construction Technology Platform (PTPC), argues that large construction companies, innovative SMEs, designers, universities, and public institutions all stand to benefit from closer collaboration. The PTPC, which unites approximately 80 members, has worked to keep the sector engaged amid geopolitical and climate challenges, as well as rapid technological advancements. She notes that a lack of scale remains a major barrier to international competition, adding that internationalisation "is a demanding process, even for large companies."
This issue also highlights the success stories of companies such as ACL Cimenteira do Louro, Aleluia Ceramics, Artnovion, Barmat, Chatron, Coba, Havelar, and Quadrante.
Poland is the country spotlighted this month. With the second-largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe, the sixth-largest in the EU, and the twentieth-largest in the world, Poland presents a significant, open, and modern domestic market. Its growing middle class and steadily increasing purchasing power, combined with consistent economic growth and ongoing industrial and technological development, offer promising opportunities for Portuguese companies across various sectors.
