The research institute INEGI in Porto, Portugal is collaborating with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto to develop a Command and Control Center (C3-4Ocean) for coordinating operations in the Atlantic Ocean. According to a statement, the center will act as a platform for deploying autonomous systems at sea more quickly, efficiently, and at a lower cost.
INEGI explains that this modern infrastructure will also support innovation, particularly in the fields of oceanographic monitoring and maritime safety. In future, the center will be available around the clock to various stakeholders in the so-called blue economy, including research centers, universities, companies, and public institutions. The unmanned sea drones operated from C3-4Ocean will be equipped with sensors to measure environmental variables relevant to the development of technological solutions for the blue economy.
