With a concentration of industry in the north of the country, home textiles have become one of the Home Cluster's most robust segments, demonstrating their ability to compete and grow in international markets.In 2024, exports increased by around 8 per cent, reaching almost 750 million euros. This was the strongest growth within the cluster, contrasting with the negative trends seen in other sectors.
Portuguese home textiles are present in around 140 markets, with exports accounting for over 98 per cent of production. The sector's main clients are the United States, Spain, France and the United Kingdom, and it has reinforced its international focus and ability to adapt to different markets.
The sector is particularly alert to political and economic changes in the US due to its significant weight in total exports. The recent announcement of new American trade policies demonstrated the immediate impact that sudden measures can have.In response, companies have sought to diversify their destinations, strengthening their presence in other countries in order to reduce risk and dependency.
