Portuguese students develop AI system to speed up fact-checking.
A group of students from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) mechanism to accelerate the fact-checking process and tackle disinformation, which will be presented this Thursday in Montreal, Canada.
The university said in a statement that the model "seeks to reduce the time required to assess content with potential to be fake news," streamlining the fact-checking of digital content to support journalists in combating the phenomenon of disinformation.
The AI system automatically performs all the fact-checking steps usually carried out manually by professional journalists, requiring only the identification of the statement to be verified.
