Seedsight, a Portuguese deeptech spin-off from INESC TEC and incubated at UPTEC, has secured €1.78 million in new funding to expand the commercial and operational development of its technology aimed at reducing food waste in the agri-food industry. This latest round, led by 3xP Global with participation from Techstars, HBG Ventures GmbH, and new investor Generation-Re Syndicate, brings the company’s total funding to €2.78 million.
The startup focuses on digitising grain quality assessment through a platform that combines optical sensors and artificial intelligence. By creating a digital library of cereal and seed "signatures” validated via low-cost biomolecular and biophysical analyses, Seedsight enables farmers, cooperatives, and mills to identify the best grain varieties and suppliers more efficiently and at competitive prices. This innovation aims to reduce waste and allow quality verification at only 10% of traditional costs.
According to CEO Joana Paiva, the investment represents a strong endorsement of the company’s vision to transform the entire cereal value chain. Seedsight plans to train more than 100 farmers over the next three years through a network of cooperatives and key producers, equipping them with digital tools for quality assessment and commercial optimisation.
This year, Seedsight was also named one of the 12 finalists in the 2025 Innovation Radar Prize in the Smart Hardware & Robotics category, recognising its cutting-edge approach to combining AI and optical sensing in sustainable agri-tech. By combining AI with optical sensing, Seedsigh ’s technology brings greater efficiency and sustainability to grain production and trade, positioning the company as a key innovator in sustainable agri-tech.
