With the launch of its new Digital Library, the EPO’s Observatory on Patents and Technology continues to make Europe’s innovation ecosystem more accessible than ever before. The Digital Library brings together a wide range of reports, studies, videos, podcasts and interactive data from the European Patent Office (EPO) and trusted partners. All materials are carefully categorised and easily searchable, supported by knowledge maps that link related topics, authors and resources.
This new platform empowers all actors in the innovation ecosystem – from researchers and policymakers to technology transfer offices – to explore, connect and act on insights that drive technological progress and inform evidence-based decisions. By deepening understanding across digital, sustainable and technological fields, the Digital Library supports smarter policies and stronger research outcomes for the future.
The Digital Library already contains hundreds of entries from the EPO and many other trusted partners in the innovation ecosystem. The diverse assets are organised in five main collections:
- Actors of innovation
- Countries and regions
- Environment and sustainability
- Industries
- Science and technology
In time, more resources and advanced search features will be added, enriching the library and making it the “go-to” repository for any researcher or policymaker wanting to know more about innovation. Regularly updated, the Digital Library is more than an archive, it is a dynamic tool to connect authors with audiences, building bridges between the innovation topics of greatest concern and enabling analysis of trends and strategies, as well as supporting smarter policy-making and better research.
The Digital Library complements existing archives of patent-related documentation at epo.org, for example case law from the Boards of Appeal and policy papers from the Administrative Council.
