The monumental scale of most of Joana Vasconcelos’ works are just a part of her story. First, there was a chandelier made of tampons at Lux, Lisbon’s trendy nightclub, a place where she even worked as a bouncer for a while. Then, there was the shoe made of pans or the helicopter lined in gold, crystals and feathers. Her Versailles’ exhibition was seen by 1.6 million visitors: the most viewed exhibition in France in over 50 years.
