Born from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Medtiles is a multidisciplinary spin-off combining artificial intelligence, technology, and medicine to improve the way healthcare professionals are trained. The company’s flagship product, Medtiles Tutor, uses generative AI to create realistic and adaptive clinical simulations where users can make critical decisions in a safe, repeatable environment with immediate feedback.
The platform adapts to the user’s experience level, allowing educators to customise cases, define complexity, and adjust language or parameters. Medtiles has already demonstrated impact, with over 80% of professionals using the Tutor platform in collaboration with Neurotalks reporting better knowledge retention. Partnerships with Hospital da Luz and the Catholic University of Porto have validated its use in both clinical and academic contexts. The project has also earned recognition from Portugal’s National Innovation Agency (ANI) with the Selo ID for innovation in AI applied to healthcare.
Supported by FEUP’s innovation initiatives and mentorship networks, Medtiles is now preparing to expand internationally, targeting Spain, Italy, and Brazil, and exploring collaborations with pharmaceutical and medtech companies. Its ongoing development focuses on Agentic AI frameworks and specialised health models, positioning Porto at the forefront of intelligent medical education technology.
