The 2025 edition of the World Architecture Festival (WAF), which is taking place in Miami this year, honoured the Atelier Segmento Urbano with the WAFX 2025 award in the "Ageing and Health" category for the project "Echoes of the Void". The festival jury, which annually recognises the most visionary projects in contemporary architecture, announced the first 28 winners.
“Echoes of the Void” is a project conceived for the unique context of Furnas, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. Set amongst dense forest and a lake, the building offers a space for hospitality and contemplation for people at the end of their lives. Rather than a conventional clinical centre, it is a place that allows for silence, pause, and intimacy with time and the landscape.
