Cell4Food, a spinoff from the University of Porto, has obtained €1.5 million through the SIID programme under Portugal 2030 to support the development of CELLBLUE, a project focused on creating sustainable, cell-cultured seafood.
The funding will accelerate research and technological innovation, particularly in producing octopus cells for hybrid products that replicate the flavour, texture, and nutritional value of traditional octopus.
The startup positions its work as a response to global challenges such as the over-exploitation of marine resources and the resulting environmental degradation. By developing ethical, sustainable protein alternatives, Cell4Food aims to contribute to a more responsible food future aligned with sustainability principles.
