SockAffairs is further expanding its collection of affordable designer socks. As well as introducing motifs of The Little Prince, the producer of designer socks has entered into a collaboration with the Prado in Madrid. The designs of cars and music artists remain its bestsellers.
SockAffairs is entering the busy autumn season with an expanded collection. According to the Lisbon-based producer of affordable designer socks, the range now includes motifs of The Little Prince, the fantasy figure created by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Also new is a collaboration with the Prado. The museum in Madrid has authorized the Portuguese company to use motifs from paintings by the Old Masters in its collection for socks.
SockAffairs launched in 2016 with socks featuring images from the automotive industry, later adding aeroplanes and motifs of bands such as AC/DC and Pink Floyd. Gonçalo Henriques, founder and CEO of the sock supplier, says the idea came to him in Silicon Valley, where he noticed that anyone successful wore eye-catching socks. “Socks are the new ties,” says Henriques. But back then, the motifs bothered him – they were, he said, “too childish”.
Since then, he and his designers have been creating socks for people who want to wear their passions on their feet – be it their interest in cars, music or art. Production takes place in Portugal, because of the quality of local manufacturers, according to Henriques.
SockAffairs now sells 260,000 pairs of socks annually, and the number is increasing every year. The most important markets are Germany, the UK and the USA. There are also clear national preferences, according to the company. Aeroplane motifs are popular in the UK, while in Switzerland, socks featuring the Sauber team are selling well. Henriques also expects The Little Prince range to perform well there.
