This year’s South Summit, in its 13th edition, takes place between 5th and 7th June and is ‘one of Europe’s leading entrepreneurship and innovation conferences’, as Startup Portugal highlighted in a statement today.
According to Startup Portugal, ten of the companies that will be in Madrid this week are part of this delegation through the Business Abroad programme, which aims to promote the internationalisation of national startups, supporting their presence and exposure in international markets.
‘The selected startups plan to enter or invest more in the Spanish market and represent the diversity and dynamism of the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem, operating in areas such as artificial intelligence, health tech, education, e-commerce and sustainability,’ reads the Startup Portugal statement.
These ten companies ‘have already raised a total of around €8 million and currently employ more than 120 people’, according to Startup Portugal.
‘Attending the South Summit through our Business Abroad programme is a unique opportunity for Portuguese startups to present their innovative solutions and establish strategic partnerships in one of the most important markets for Portugal,’ said the executive director of Startup Portugal, António Dias Martins, quoted in the same press release.
Startup Portugal has already taken 20 Portuguese companies to Barcelona this year, also in Spain, for the 4YFN conference.
Spain is ‘one of the most important internationalisation destinations for Portuguese startups’ and the participation of 50 companies in these two conferences is a record, added António Dias Martins.
The South Summit’s motto this year is ‘Human By Design’ and, according to the organisers, it will address ‘the questions posed by the new technological era’, such as the development of ‘technology with a heartbeat’ and ‘a future centred on the human being’.
Last year’s edition of the conference featured 650 speakers from all over the world, as well as 2,000 investors and 6,500 entrepreneurs.
In addition to the annual edition in Madrid, there have also been three South Summit conferences in Brazil (South Summit Brazil).
Startup Portugal, which has public utility status, promotes entrepreneurship in liaison with public and private organisations.
