The new factory on the Atlantic coast will bring the region the potential of up to 500 new jobs in the future.
A significant investment for Testo
The bottom line is that Testo is investing a double-digit million amount in the new location. The company has been pursuing the strategy of sourcing all essential components of its most important products from at least two suppliers for some time. In addition, it is important for Testo to have the ability to manufacture these products at two different locations.
Portugal was awarded the contract for several reasons. "The government in Portugal has created a good investment climate and is making great efforts to attract foreign direct investment," says Burkart Knospe, CEO of Testo. Portugal offers all the advantages of the European Union. Additionally, the country offers a high potential for qualified specialists, explains Knospe. The company is also satisfied with the very good cooperation with the local authorities and the construction company Garcia Garcia
Not only a production plant, but far more
The company is keen to underline that the new facility in Albergaria-a-Velha will be far more than a mere production plant. “We are actively looking for new employees from many different backgrounds. We are offering jobs in the production and logistics area, but we are also looking for highly skilled professionals and university graduates with technical knowledge”, says Burkart Knospe. Moreover, Testo is considering offering an education program for young talents. At the same time, the new facility won’t lead to cuts in Germany.
Local sourcing and clean products
The Testo Group is proud of its broad international orientation, which now has another facet with a new site in Portugal. Testo is looking for sub-suppliers for the components from local sources, from the EU, but also directly from Portugal. This refers to the delivery of components or injection-molded parts, for example. In this respect, the company hence also makes a profound contribution to Portuguese value creation. Testo is also proud of its products that have a sustainable benefit for people and the environment. This also means that their production produces hardly any exhaust gases, uses any water or releases any pollutants. “Our products are created on the basis of the knowhow and skill of our people”, explains Burkart Knospe. Testo is confident that Portugal is a suitable location for further good and fruitful development.
