Danish Topsoe invests in new cleantech project

Topsoe, a global provider of advanced technology and solutions for the energy transition, will establish a battery materials manufacturing facility, in Sines, to produce LNMO cathode active materials (CAM) used in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries specifically in electric vehicles and for energy storage, thus helping to advance European energy resiliency. This project is one of 61 selected by the European Commission for funding through the Innovation Fund, using revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), as part of efforts to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy in key energy transition sectors.

Toray expands local capabilities in Portugal

Japanese group Toray Industries has announced the launch of the first European sewing operations for Ultrasuede, alongside the opening of a showroom in Portugal, at the facilities of its subsidiary Alva Confecções in Sintra. This move strengthens Portugal’s role as a strategic industrial and supply-chain hub for Europe, supporting faster delivery and an integrated value chain for high-value applications across automotive interiors, furniture, design and fashion.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) expands European Sovereign Cloud to Portugal

This expansion is intended to support strict in country data residency and low latency requirements across the EU, representing a major long term investment in infrastructure, workforce expansion, and digital skills development.
Vehicle production in Portugal grew by 2.7% in 2025

In 2025, vehicle production in Portugal grew by 2.7% yoy, reaching 341,361 units. With 97.8% of production exported, the sector continues to reinforce Portugal's position as an automotive manufacturing and export hub. Europe accounted for 88% of exports, led by Germany, Italy, Turkey, France, and Spain, followed by Africa (4.3%) and the Americas (2.8%).
Portugal climbs three places in INSEAD Global Talent Index 2025

Portugal ranks 24th globally out of 135 countries, supported by an open, inclusive and stable talent ecosystem. Strengths include internal openness (6th worldwide), world-leading economic empowerment of women (1st), strong social cohesion, and solid performance in education, R&D and talent retention. High quality of life further supports Portugal’s attractiveness for engineering, R&D, shared services and advanced manufacturing serving global markets.
Portugal will host INNOSPACE’s first European launch base in the Azores, with commercial launches planned from Santa Maria as early as Q4 2026, reinforcing Portugal’s role as a strategic Atlantic space hub. INNOSPACE is an aerospace and defense manufacturing and engineering service provider, headquartered in South Korea.
We are thrilled to accept this grant from the Portuguese government for our next-generation LMNO CAM technology.
