INESC - Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering - is a Portuguese Research and Technology Organisation with 40 years of experience in bringing knowledge and innovation to society and the market. INESC is a worldwide renowned institution in the areas of computer science and advanced computing, power and energy systems, embedded electronic systems and microelectronics, intelligent systems, cybersecurity, bioengineering and materials.

INESC produces cutting-edge science and technology, competing and taking leading positions in the national and world markets. It trains human resources with high scientific and technological quality, contributing with more than 300 highly trained professionals in state-of-the-art scientific knowledge and technology innovation as alumni employed by private and public entities around the world every year. In Horizon 2020 alone, INESC institutes have participated in more than 700 projects and coordinated more than 140 small, medium and large-scale collaborative research and innovation projects, as well as Coordination and Support Actions.

 

In Portugal, INESC counts 5 Institutes (INESC Coimbra; INESC-ID; INOV INESC INOVAÇÃO; INESC-MN; INESC TEC) with 2004 highly specialized support staff, researchers and innovation experts, as well as state-of-the-art research and technological infrastructures and test-beds. It also has laboratories and research units hosted by 12 higher education institutions around the country.

 

Internationally, INESC has collaboration agreements and joint research and innovation projects with Japan, India, China, South Korea. In the USA, it is responsible for the management of diverse collaborative academic and research programmes with UT Austin and MIT and participates in the Portuguese collaboration with CMU. In Latin America, through its twin lab “INESC P&D Brazil”, it brings together more than 20 Brazilian universities.

 

INESC is now also present in Brussels through the INESC Brussels HUB, a representation office facilitating the bridge to EU R&I programmes, European industry, universities, and institutions.
