RWE is successfully expanding its solar business in the Iberian region, with the recent commissioning of the Morgavel solar photovoltaic farm in Portugal.

This ground-mounted facility, boasting a capacity of 46 MWac, is situated on a vast 112-hectare area south of Lisbon in Morgavel, Sines. The farm incorporates approximately 91,000 bifacial solar modules, designed to capture solar radiation from both the front and rear sides of the module. Omexom Portugal oversaw the construction of the solar plant, while Construção e Manutenção Eletromecânica (CME) handled the substation and grid connection works.

After successfully commissioning three new solar farms – Las Vaguadas, Casa Valdes, and Puerta del Sol – with a combined capacity of 98 MWac, and initiating the construction of the 92 MWac Gazules project in Spain over the past year, RWE now boasts a solar capacity of approximately 300 MWac. This capacity is spread across six large-scale photovoltaic projects currently operational, with an additional one under construction on the Iberian Peninsula. Furthermore, with the recent inauguration of the innovative Orkoien onshore project, RWE Renewables Iberia now oversees onshore wind farms with a cumulative capacity of approximately 500 MW.
