The conference, "Making the Single Market work for Europe's SMEs", will explore the tools that can be mobilised and the actions that need to be taken to enable European SMEs to take full advantage of the Single Market and its future deepening.

The deepening and implementation of the single market are clear priorities for France, fully shared by the European institutions. The single market, with 447 million consumers and representing 18% of the world economy, is a real place of development opportunities for businesses, particularly for SMEs, which are sometimes unaware of the possibilities offered by this economic area. This is despite the fact that they are the backbone of the EU economy, accounting for 99% of all businesses, more than half of the continent's value added and two out of three jobs.

However, the cross-border activities of SMEs are still sometimes limited by regulatory and non-regulatory barriers that affect them at both local and national level.
