Danish company, Eurowind Energy, has begun construction of its first solar project in Portugal.

The agreement to acquire the project from Hyperion Renewables was reached in August 2020 and the transaction was completed in April 2021, once the project has acquired all licenses and permits to begin construction.

The Triana solar park is expected to come into operation in the third quarter of 2022.

With 40,741 bifacial photovoltaic modules totalling 22 MWp in an area of more than 30 hectares, the solar park will be connected to the Cheganças substation at 30kV and will supply approximately 14,100 families with green electricity, avoiding the emission of more than 19,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

“Our Portuguese team has been developing from scratch a vast pipeline of projects that include photovoltaic, wind and storage, as well as hydrogen. It is our intention to play an increasingly active role in Portugal and it is very exciting to see that our contribution to a greener economy in this market has just started”, said the CEO of Eurowind Energy, Jens Rasmussen in a statement.

For his part, Pedro Pereira, Director General for Southern Europe, said that “this is just the first of several renewable energy projects that we have in our portfolio in Portugal and we are looking forward to starting the construction of a new portfolio of projects already in the next year."
