The Swiss airline on Friday started a weekly connection between Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, and Geneva, Switzerland, a route that will diversify the tourist market of the Azores, ANA, Portugal’s airports manager said.
In a statement, ANA said that the weekly link will allow the expansion of air connectivity of the Azores, inaugurating the connection of the archipelago with a new destination, Switzerland.
“It is with great satisfaction that we welcome Swiss to the Azores. This new route will contribute to diversify the tourism market of the Azores and demonstrate once again the potential of this region as a destination of nature, with unique characteristics, based on sustainability,” said the commercial director of ANA, Francisco Pita, quoted in the press release.
The connection between Geneva and Ponta Delgada will take place on Fridays and will use an Airbus 220-300.
On 23 May, Lufthansa (owner of Swiss) also started a weekly connection (on Sundays) between Frankfurt, Germany, and Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel.
