Window of opportunity
The United States of America are the biggest economy in the world and our 8th most important client. The US is traditionally the most important Portuguese partner right after the European Union Countries. The US market became a reference market to Portuguese companies and it still continues to offer windows of opportunity.
During his visit to Portugal last year, the President of the United States Barack Obama pointed the way for an increased effort to reinforce the economic relations between the two companies. Obama declared: “I’m really impressed with the remarkable work Portugal has been doing in the renewable energies sector, where we believe we can work harder”.
After the economic slowdown the United States are now on a growth path driven by private consumption and public investment. In the next six years $500 billions will be invested in infrastructures modernization. Bridges, dams, energy distribution and drinking water are the main focus for this investment. Consumption has also increased; several products are Portuguese (wood, textiles, cork and technologic products).
The United States has been an incubator for some of the largest technology companies, but it is also a market capable of embracing innovative Portuguese talent such as Antonio Damasio. A country open to stat-of-art innovative products created by Portuguese companies in the Life-Science industry that are active in the market by means of export activity or by the establishment of research centers.
