The expansion works will begin with the consignment of the East Breakwater enlargement, allowing the port to double its containerized cargo installed capacity. The works concerning the extension of the Port of Sines’ East Breakwater were consigned to Conduril - Engenharia SA.
With a total investment of approximately 72 million euros, the contract comprises the enlargement of the breakwater by 750 metres, which will reinforce the protection of the east side of the Port of Sines, for the next expansion phase of the Sines Container Terminal - Terminal XXI, under the responsibility of the company awarded the concession - PSA Sines.
The contract is due for completion during the first quarter of 2023, and the extension of this protection infrastructure will allow four of the largest container carriers in operation in the world, with 400 meters of LOA (length overall) to call at the port simultaneously. Upon completion, Terminal XXI will double its installed capacity to 4.1 million TEUs. Terminal XXI was signed last October 12, resulting on a totally private investment of 661 million euros, under the responsibility of PSA Sines.
