The Angolan Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (Aipex) wants to make exports of non-oil products more regular as a way of contributing to the diversification of the economy, its chairman, Licínio Vaz Contreiras said on Monday.

He also said at a training session on international trade and export management that the institution will work to promote the export of products such as banana, mango, mucua (fruit of the baobab tree), honey, marble and granite, salt, glass and also some derivatives of the fishing industry.

 

With the training, promoted under the European Union Project for Support and Technical Assistance and Strengthening Institutional Capacity, which is funded with 12 million euros by the European Union, the aim is to improve the capacity of manufacturing companies and to remove the constraints on production in order to increase production and export.

 

Licínio Vaz Contreiras said exports of these products do not exceed 3.0% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with 95% of what Angola exports still made up of oil and gas.

 

The chairman of Aipex mentioned salt, which is being exported raw mainly to the Democratic Republic of Congo and added that some investment is needed to ensure product quality and to add value by exporting packaged salt.
