Tivoli Hotels & Resorts is to open a new hotel this year in China in its first foray into the Chinese market.

The hotel will be in the capital of the Sichuan province, Chengdu, one of the main economic, commercial and financial centres of southwest China.

Recognised for its mild climate and typical cuisine, Chengdu is also a hub for research and famous for breeding giant pandas and attracts around 3.5 million visitors a year who also visit its historic attractions.

This new hotel is being built in partnership with the Chengdu urban and rural construction development company, Qingyang Limited.

With its opening slated for the end of 2019, the Tivoli Chengdu has 400 types of accommodation from deluxe rooms to suites and apartments.

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has its origins in Lisbon in 1933. The brand began an expansion plan to Brazil in 2007 and more recently to Qatar.

The group today is part of Minor Hotels which manages 16 hotels in Portugal, Brazil and Qatar. In Portugal, it has five-star units in Lisbon and Sintra, Évora and the Algarve.
