London, UK-headquartered international packaging company DS Smith announced that it has joined the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) International.
The FSC membership is expected to bring about significant improvements in forest certification system. It must be noted that DS Smith presently owns nearly 14,000 hectares of forest assets spread across North America, Portugal and Spain.
Commenting on the development, Sam Jones, Sustainability Strategy Manager, DS Smith noted that certification schemes like the FSC need to continually evolve.
The company will partner with FSC in improving the secure sharing of e-supply chain data.
Meantime, Jeremy Harrison, Chief Marketing Officer, FSC International said that collaboration with all stakeholders is crucial in developing the effectiveness of certification. FSC International cannot solve complex environmental issues on its own, he added.
DS Smith’s association with FSC International is part of its forestry stewardship policy and efforts to promote sustainable forest certification system.
