The ministry of agriculture said that five more Portuguese companies can now export pork to China, joining the four operators that had already received the green light.

Quoted in a statement, agriculture minister Maria do Céu Albuquerque said that the export of Portuguese products is one of the ministry's priorities, not only because of the importance of creating conditions that promote access to markets but also because of the visibility it gives to our products and the Portugal brand.

At the end of January 2019, Portuguese producers began exporting pork to China, a business that involves around €100 million, a figure that is expected to double this year.

Initially, exports were expected to start in December of the same year. However, container traffic caused by the strike of the eventual dockers in Setúbal ended up delaying the process.
