The Portuguese construction output index in March saw a 3.1% increase in yearly terms, after recording a 2.3% climb in the previous month, the country's National Statistics Institute (INE) said.

According to the institute, the construction segments of building and civil engineering showed opposite behaviours, with the former slowing down 0.1 percentage points to 1.6%, while the latter increased from 3.1% in February to 5.3% in March.

The employment and pay rates grew 3.3% and 5.6% in March, compared to 2.5% and 5.9% in February, respectively.

 

Compared to February, the employment rate increased by 0.7% (-0.1% in March 2018), while the pay rate grew by 2.4% (2.7% in March 2018).

 

As for annual average, the employment and pay rates increased 2.6% and 4.3%, respectively, in March, while the climbs were 2.4% and 4.4% in February.
