Symington Family Estates is the leading producer of Premium Quality Ports, owner of prestigious brands as Graham’s, Dow’s, Cockburn’s and Warre’s. They are the principal vineyard owner in the Douro Valley with more than 1000 hectares of land across 26 individual Quintas (Estates) and, with Scottish, English, and Portuguese ancestry, Symington is a Douro-grown presence for five generations.
Time and efficiency are the company drivers, as proven by the sales of the family's Port companies that make up one-third of all premium Port sold throughout the world.
Despite their success, product development was still a manual and lengthy process in the organization: data was spread throughout different sources and files and caused lack and loss of the product information. There was no visibility over the projects running and financial forecasts were not clear from the start.
That’s why they decided to automate their product development process and turned to the B.Create platform.
For Symington, who manages a portfolio of more than 1000 SKU’S, exports 90 percent of their products to over 80 countries and creates an average of 120 projects a year, product development efficiency and time to market are critical factors.
B.Create platform provided users with smart forms integrated with Symington SAP system, to help them better specify product requirements for: new products, product changes, private label and new harvests. From conception to market launch, several automatisms were made available, to make it easier for users when defining and valuating the product bill of materials (BOM), integrate costs and forecasts (wine & dry materials, services, production and other). Historical data was also integrated, helping to optimize specification and avoid repeated operations.
Manual operations turned to automatic workflows and all process stakeholders are notified by email, knowing exactly what information to provide, at the right time.
