4. Capital MarketsThe Portuguese stock exchange is managed by Euronext Lisbon – a company which is part of the NYSE Euronext Group. NYSE Euronext holding company has locations in six countries including New York Stock Exchange and NYSE Euronext (Belgium, France, Netherlands and Portugal), NYSE Liffe (derivatives business) and NYSE Arca Options, (innovative automated trading system for equity options).

NYSE Euronext offers a diverse range of services, including listings, stocks, futures and options, bonds, data, infrastructures management services and solutions and a comprehensive commercial technology.

NYSE Euronext is represented in the S&P 500 index, and is the only exchange operator in the Fortune 500. Focused in enterprises of all sizes and geographic locations, NYSE Euronext offers the possibility of being listed in the US or in the European market, using two major world currencies (U.S. Dollars and Euro).


Euronext Lisbon stock exchange allows a listed company to access global and diversified database of investors.

 

The Portuguese stock exchange offers to its members a diverse product portfolio: shares, funds, exchange traded funds, bonds, and structured products, including warrants and futures. Various market segments and solutions were developed to meet the different characteristics of issuers and products. Euronext Lisbon members trade all cash market products listed on the markets of Euronext Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels.


PSI 20 (Portuguese Stock Index) is the Portuguese benchmark index representing a group of companies listed on Euronext Lisbon. The index keeps track of the evolution of the prices of the twenty largest and most liquid share issues selected from the universe of companies listed on Euronext Lisbon. Along with Brussels’ BEL20, Paris’s CAC40 and Amsterdam’s AEX, it is one of the main indices of the Euronext group.

 

PSI 20 was launched in 1993, and it has been covering different industries such as the financial, manufacturing, utilities, services, construction, telecommunications and others. Futures and options contracts on 20 PSI are listed in the NYSE Liffe’s European Derivatives markets.

 

The securities market in Portugal has been developed under the supervision of an independent Government institution, the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (“CMVM – Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários”). It was established in April 1991 with the mission of supervising and regulating securities and other financial instruments markets (known as “stock markets”) as well as the activity of all those who operate within the said markets.

 

The CMVM has administrative and financial autonomy, and it is part of the College of Euronext Regulatory Bodies (France, UK, Belgium and The Netherlands) that work together to co-ordinate the supervision of NYSE Euronext’s European cash markets.

The trading platform of Euronext Lisbon is fully electronic.
