Portugal moves on…clean energies

In 2009, about 15% of total electricity consumed in Portuguese households came from wind energy farms. According to these figures, now released by REN, – Redes Energéticas Nacionais – Portugal is now the 2nd country worldwide in terms of wind energy contribution to total electricity consumption in households. These results are a part of a clean energy program being pursuit by Portugal to ensure its leadership in terms of clean energy generation capacity. The program sets that the rate of electricity produced from renewable energy sources shall be 45% in 2010. All renewable energy sources available (hydro-energy, bio-mass, solar energy, bio-fuels, wind energy) now produces 35,9% of total electricity consumption in the country.
